Frequently asked questions
All questions about your new website, by topic.
Getting started
- A first conversation, and your texts and photos. If you don’t have a website yet, or want a new one next to an old one, it works the same way: I build, you review a test version and nothing goes live without your approval.
- A new site is usually online within 2-4 weeks, depending on the number of pages and integrations. If you already have a site, it stays online until the new one is ready.
- Yes. For a small site there’s Starter: €39 a month, no setup fee, on a fixed template you keep up to date yourself. If you want more custom work, a blog or several languages, you choose Launch or higher.
- It doesn’t matter where you are. I work for clients fully remote, entirely online: the build, the maintenance and the support all happen online, so you don’t depend on an agency in your own town. In practice the lines are even shorter: you deal directly with me, with no account manager in between. Prefer a video call to get acquainted first? That is always possible.
- Little. I take care of the build, moving over any existing content and the technical side. From you I mainly need input: a content check, feedback on the test version, and, if you already have a site, access to it. Not a full-time project. A few contact moments are enough.
- You always see your new website in a test version first, before it goes live. Nothing changes on your current site without your approval. Are there things that need to be different? I adjust those during the project, before we go live.
Already have a site?
- Yes. I take over your existing site (WordPress, Wix or Webflow) with your texts, images and addresses, and set up redirects so your Google rankings stay put. Before I start I make a complete backup. This transfer is included in Launch or higher.
- Yes, that’s possible. A transfer deliberately keeps your design exactly the same, that is what keeps it predictable and affordable. If you would rather have a fresher design or revised content at the same time, I am happy to think that through with you. That falls outside the plan and is done at a day rate of €750 per day, always with a clear estimate first so you are never surprised.
- I keep all your addresses (URLs) and set up automatic redirects where needed, so your positions in Google stay intact. The faster load times often even improve your position after the switch.
Price and subscription
- Yes, if you prefer, I invoice yearly in advance. There’s no annual discount.
- Count everything in and the difference is smaller than it looks. Cheap packages seem good value, but you’re usually locked in: your site sits on their system, the monthly fee keeps running, and you build and maintain it yourself. With me you pay for a site I move over, maintain and secure for you, with no vendor lock-in: you can always get your texts and images on simple request, and with your own server you become the full owner of your site. No lock on your site, no surprises. For a firm with confidential files that matters more than a few euros a month: your website is your business card, not a throwaway product.
- Everything your site needs: hosting, security, updates, monitoring and daily backups. From Launch onwards, monthly support hours for small changes are added. Building your site is covered by the one-time setup (Starter has no setup). Major new work or a redesign falls outside the subscription and I quote it separately.
- Yes, always. You pay the difference in setup between your current and your new plan (e.g. from Launch to Growth €120).
Support and changes
- Yes. You get a simple editor that lets you edit text, upload images and add pages without technical knowledge. As easy as in Word, with a preview so you see the result before it goes live.
- Absolutely. From Launch onwards your subscription includes monthly support hours for small changes (from 0.5 hours in Launch to 1.5 hours in Scale); with Starter I help you when something breaks. Bigger changes or new work I do at a day rate of €750, always with a clear estimate first. And you’re never locked in with me: you can always take your texts and images with you.
- On a static site very little can technically break: there is no database or server to crash. If something does break on my end, I fix it for free, separate from your support hours. On a subscription I pick that up quickly.
Every month I help you with what’s already there:
- a quick question about the editor;
- a small text or image change you can’t sort out yourself;
- adjusting a setting, such as a redirect or a form field.
Your included time per month: Launch 0.5 hours, Growth 1 hour, Scale 1.5 hours. With Starter I help you when something breaks. Not used? It expires, it doesn’t accumulate.
Support covers what’s already in your plan. New functionality not included in your plan is billed at a day rate.
- If something breaks due to the build, the hosting or an update on my end, I fix it for free, separate from your support hours. The same goes for a mistake in what I delivered, or a server-side problem such as downtime. In short: you do not pay for my mistakes.
New work falls outside support. For example:
- functionality not included in your plan;
- a new page or a new building block;
- extra functionality or a redesign;
- a new integration, such as a CRM or a second language;
- migrating a lot of content.
I do that at a day rate of €750, always with a clear estimate first so you never face a surprise. Hours beyond your monthly support also fall under this.
- No problem. I bill the extra time at the day rate, and I let you know in advance as soon as we go over your included hours. So you decide whether it is worth it, and you never face an unexpected invoice.
Ownership and your own server
- No, I no longer offer a one-time purchase. If you want to own your site, choose your own server (from Launch, +€30 a month and a one-time setup of €250). You then take over the full code with no takeover fee and you’re 100% the owner.
- A full takeover is possible with your own server. You become the owner of your site’s full code and receive an export of your texts and images, short instructions to build the site and help transferring your domain. Not included: my working tools (prompts, generation tools, server configuration), the server itself, and hosting, maintenance and support after the takeover (that’s then at a day rate). You’re then 100% the owner. Building blocks from my template that are in your site, you may keep using for your own site.
- Yes, with your own server, with no takeover fee. If you take over before the end of the 12-month minimum term, you pay the remaining balance of it. After that there’s no subscription anymore, so further help is at a day rate of €750. Without your own server you get your texts and images, on simple request and free of charge.
- An option from Launch: your site runs separately from other sites, for €30 a month and €250 one-time. It also lets you take over your site’s full code. Your own server isn’t available with Starter.
Features and limits
- Your site runs on a modern technology that generates ready-made pages: lightning fast and without a database. You manage your content with Tina, a simple editor that feels like Word. You do not need to know either to manage your site: I handle the tech, you handle the content.
- Yes. In every plan I measure your visitors with Matomo, which I host myself: privacy-friendly, without cookies and GDPR-compliant. That gives you reliable visitor numbers without a cookie banner.
- Yes. I connect your newsletter form to the email tool you already use, such as Mailchimp or MailerLite. Prefer your own system to manage? That is possible too; that requires a heavier server and sometimes migrating existing contacts, for which I make a separate quote.
How much you can build yourself depends on the plan:
- Starter: a fixed template, without custom building blocks. You change texts and photos yourself.
- Launch: you build pages yourself with a set of basic building blocks (text, images, figures, FAQ).
- Growth: extra building blocks for blog, lead magnets, team and testimonials. Ideal if you actively work on your visibility.
- Scale: access to all building blocks, plus custom-built components for specific needs.
StaticShift is built for fast, secure content websites. A few things I therefore deliberately don’t do:
- Webshops with a cart, inventory management and checkout. That belongs on an e-commerce platform. A few individual products through an external payment link is fine.
- Member areas with logins, user accounts or gated content.
- Web applications such as booking systems with live availability, configurators or client portals. That is application development, not a website.
- Community features such as forums or live comments. Those rely on an external service that I can at most embed.
Not sure whether your idea fits? Just ask, and I’ll tell you honestly whether it fits.
- Yes. I show videos via YouTube or Vimeo, so your pages stay fast to load. I deliberately do not put heavy video files on the site itself: that requires separate video hosting, which I can arrange separately and which is billed separately.
